Description

Metallic, gold colored pyrite is commonly referred to as Fool’s Gold. Pyrite has a natural cubic structure.

Also a form of pyrite, marcasite is metallic steel grey in color.

History

Man Tamer

Greek naturalist Pliny the Elder called pyrite androdamus, meaning “man tamer”, after a 4th century BC woman was found wearing a pair of boots studded with 3½ dozen pyrite crystals.
